I write not because it is a need but because it is a choice. I don’t have to write to survive. I write to live. And living differs from survival.
Surviving is when you are sleeping under a tree’s shade on the ground next to a fire, but living is when you are sleeping in a tree house. So, writing is my way of sleeping in a tree house, away from the ground and away from the insects. An occasional skirmish by crazy birds is expected but it is tolerable and sometimes necessary.
